Monterra was founded in Denver in 2025 after a team of engineers spent years watching the same drawing patterns get rebuilt from scratch on every commercial project. The permit drawing set has not changed much in 30 years. The process for producing it has not either.
Our Mission
Engineering Time Should Go Into Engineering, Not Drafting
Commercial electrical engineers spend a significant portion of every project week on drawing production work that is highly pattern-driven and offers little design challenge. Load calculations follow the same NEC formula on every project. Panel schedules use the same formatting. Single-line diagrams are assembled from the same components. Monterra was built to automate exactly this class of work.
The goal is not to replace the engineer. A PE still reviews every sheet, flags corrections, and approves the final set. The goal is to eliminate the hours spent on layout, formatting, and calculation mechanics so the engineer can focus on the decisions that actually require engineering judgment.

People Who Know How Permit Drawings Actually Get Built
The Monterra team combines electrical engineering experience with software development. Everyone on the team has spent time either producing commercial permit packages or building the tools engineers use to do it.
Aaron Feldman
Co-Founder and CEO
Aaron spent years at the intersection of construction permitting and software, producing permit drawing sets for retail and mixed-use commercial projects. Watching licensed engineers put hours into layout mechanics that followed the same NEC formula on every project, he built Monterra to separate the work that requires engineering judgment from the work that doesn't.
Maya Chen
Co-Founder and CTO
Maya's background is in document-understanding systems and CAD-format parsing. Before Monterra she worked on automated plan-review tooling and came to the company with a clear view of how structured data could replace manual drafting. She leads the generation engine and the jurisdiction configuration system that maps NEC code sections to local AHJ formatting requirements.
James Okafor
Head of Product
James spent time embedded with commercial electrical contractors learning how jobsite requirements travel from field to permit office. That experience shapes Monterra's intake workflow and review tooling. He focuses on how the product fits into the PE review process that engineering firms already follow, not around it.

Monterra operates from Denver, Colorado. Denver's commercial construction market, strong engineering talent pool, and proximity to Rocky Mountain region jurisdictions made it the obvious home for a company focused on western US permit workflows.
